Starting to add blog articles around domestic Road Trips. This is the first one in my home state of Tennessee.

Brentwood, TN (USA) – Attended the 40th Reunion Ceremony of the Hard Scuffle Road Community June 15th, 2024. This trip was special to me, because my grandfather grew up in this small town outside of Nashville, it was a bedroom community that back in the early 1900’s was predominantly inhabited by African Americans. Now it has multi-million-dollar homes. At one time, Oprah Winfrey had bought her father a home in Brentwood. Well on last Saturday, those that had ties to the old community came back to reconnect with community and the other families that came out of that community. Most of whom can no longer afford to live there.

I drove from North Carolina and I had a cousin and her husband to fly in from California. We met others from all other the country that attended.

My grandfather (Rev. John C. Hunt, Sr.) wrote a book about his life as a boy growing up in rural Brentwood, TN in the early 1900’s. I finished his book and added an accompanying Old-School Southern Style Cook at the end of the book with my grandmother and other family members recipes. The book is entitled, “My Grandfather’s Book: A Hard Time to Remember.” It is available online on Amazon and several other online stores. Click here to get your copy of the book. Hard Scuffle Road has since been renamed Church Street. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
